New2Toronto | Oakville Branch
The move to Ontario can be a bit confusing for both domestic and international students. So we here at New2Toronto have made a list of what to do now that you're here!
The fee estimate is a pdf document that you could find through the Sheridan student application portal. It states the different amounts you need to pay and by when. In our group's experience the dates can differ from person to person, so it's best you download and/or print a copy of yours for future reference.
Chances are, you already paid this fee. However, just to make sure, we want you to check the due date for your non-refundable fee (on your fee estimate!) and make sure you actually paid it. This is very important, because paying this fee reserves your spot in whatever program you got!
At this point, the recommended process branches off a little bit. Since the process for International students diverges quite a bit and covers some more in-depth details, we've decided to make it a separate page that'll link back to this page for the later steps that apply to everyone. As for Domestic Students, stay on the page and continue further below!
A good way to do this is to change the address on your Banking information to your Ontario address. This is important because you may need to prove that you live in Ontario now for further steps. Having something like a void cheque that has your Ontario residence on it works in past N2T members' experience
If you have an out of province license, you’ll need to physically go to the DriveTest centre in Oakville (or any DriveTest centre in Ontario) to have your license exchanged. If you don’t want / have a license, you’ll need to get an Ontario photo card, which you can apply for from a ServiceOntario centre
After 153 days of living in Ontario (so around January if you moved to Ontario in time for Sheridan’s fall semester), you’ll have to apply for an OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) card to properly access health services. Depending on your origin province, your previous provincial health insurance should cover you for the time being.
Congrats! Now you’re finished with all that... you wanna head over to one of our meetings for more info, or to get to know people in a similar place as you? Check our about page!
